Round 7 Auto-CommentaryAdam Logan (Ottawa ON) claims the lead, 6-1 +683, on a 4-game winning streak. Max Panitch (Toronto ON) is +586, #2 up from #4. Matthew Tunnicliffe (Ottawa ON) is +572, #3 sliding from #1. James Leong (Vancouver BC) is +493, on a 3-game winning streak, #4 up from #5. Jesse Matthews (Kelowna BC) is 0.5 games behind at 5.5-1.5 +447, on a 3-game winning streak, #5 improving from #7. Eric Tran (Calgary AB) is 1 game behind the leader at 5-2 +607, #6 dropping from #2. Joshua Sokol (Montreal QC) is +405, #7 improving from #11. Chris Williams (Vancouver BC) is +313, on a 3-game winning streak, #8 improving from #12. Sary Karanofsky (Cote Saint-Luc QC) is +268, on a 5-game winning streak, #9 rising from #13. Dean Saldanha (Richmond BC) is +263, #10 falling from #6. High Win: Ross Brown (Ottawa ON) 510-226 vs. Siri Tillekeratne (Calgary AB). Low Win: Joseph Bowman (Mississauga ON) 358-312 vs. Christopher Sykes (Cambridge ON). High Loss: Jason Li (Dollard-Des-Ormeaux QC) 432-488 vs. Chris Williams (Vancouver BC). Low Loss: Siri Tillekeratne (Calgary AB) 226-510 vs. Ross Brown (Ottawa ON). Round 7 I'm told by Yvonne Lobo (Mississauga ON) that it is actually nice outside and not raining anymore. I look forward to experiencing that niceness later on! Ottawa club mates and frequent sparring partners, Adam Logan (Ottawa ON) and Matthew Tunnicliffe (Ottawa ON) were at table 1. Check out the annotated game to see what went down! Someone from Ottawa won! I can't believe he is still able to do it, but Justin Smylie has been solely annotating table 2 all day! This game Eric Tran (Calgary AB) played Max Panitch (Toronto ON). Early on I saw FLESHES and LABIATED. Michael Fagen (Montreal QC) tells me it was a Collins word that led to his loss this round against Jesse Matthews (Kelowna BC), but Jesse, overhearing this, later told me that Michael was giving him too much credit. ENCANTED* was a straight-up phoney, not a product of dictionary confusion. I see aDIPOUS and rEHIRES on the board. But, really, all I can see about Michael is his teeny-tiny tracking sheet. It is 10 by 9 centimeters and he uses that tiny sheet to track FOUR games! He cannot be accused of being wasteful with paper. I half expect him to use double-sided ones at his next CNSC! The always smiling Mark Edelson (Toronto ON) is focussing on his game with round with Tony Leah (Ajax ON). I see GROUPIES and NONVERBAL (plank L) on their board. Later, STADDLE goes down. Tony's win, 392-356. Sary Karanofsky (Cote Saint-Luc QC) looks up and smiles broadly as I walk by. She is wrapping up her game with Carl Madden (Brantford ON). A few minutes later, it is a 454-423 win for her. She got down DOLLINg, GAUdIER, and REPLIES to his INERTIA. MISACTED, PORTRaIT, eNCRISP*, and AGISTED are words I think I see on a Jason Li (Dollard-Des-Ormeaux QC) vs. Chris Williams (Vancouver BC) board. Chris' win. Bernard Gotlieb (Montreal QC) defeats Dean Porporo (Nepean ON), 423-377. I see JANGLIEr, DEFIAnT, RESPONSE, and PACIFIST. Then Bernard takes off for a break. Moments later a man arrived with his two small grandchildren, one in a stroller. He was looking for Bernard. He said, "You know, he wrote a book? I am here to get him to autograph it!" Moments later, Bernard rolled in and graciously signed the book, "Hey What Happened to You?" It is a book about his bone marrow transplant surgery and it is still available, apparently, from Amazon in English and French! Anna Miransky (Toronto ON) had a big game against Heidi Robertson (Ottawa ON) this round. I see Heidi's ABOrTIVE for 78 and Anna's CITIFIeS for 80, WASTEFUL for 69, and BAITERS for 84. Yvonne Lobo (Mississauga ON) and Shan Abbasi (Mississauga ON) are at the challenge machine. NAUSEANTS is ruled acceptable. Yvonne loses a turn. On their in-progress board: GLUTENS and AVENGeD. Ross Brown (Ottawa ON) has had an awful tournament so far, but then he met Siri Tillekeratne (Calgary AB) this round and he finally had a good game, a terrific game, a 500 game! I see BONNIeST and WEEnIES on the board. 510-226 win for Ross. Ella Sobel (Dorval QC) bs. Dave Krook (Mississauga ON): SWEARER and DE?ATING on the board. Marcela Kadanka (Toronto ON) vs. Nicholas Schneider (Pickering ON). SeNIORS, bottom hooking ADULTS when down for 69, then she replied with QUANT/QI for 50. I see BISECTeD, too. Game in progress, I see Deen Hergott (Ottawa ON) battling Andre Popadynec (Toronto ON). DEFLATEd for 62 and INTEGER for 66 are Andre's plays. Deen had TSUNAMI for 90 and played GEODEsIC from the G for 86 while I watched. That brought him slightly ahead. He went on to win, 437-399. Steve Ozorio (Mississauga ON) vs. Heather Mccall (Toronto ON): GUInEAS and BRICOLE. Joseph Bowman (Mississauga ON), clad in a camouflage kilt today tells me that he has met his goal for this event: he has had an upset win. This round, he defeated #14 seed, Christopher Sykes (Cambridge ON). For a #37 seed, this is a satisfying result! |
