Round 11

Joseph Bowman (Mississauga ON) pulls me over to his just-completed game with Eric Peters (Toronto ON) to tell me about this great play. As we walked around the pillar, we found Yvonne Lobo (Mississauga ON) picking up the board (it was her equipment and she thought they were done since no one was there). Despite 80% of the board being back in the bag, the play was still there! RESTORING through the separated second R and N, a 90-point double-double! Great find!

Eric Tran (Calgary AB) had a 488-432 win against Jason Li (Dollard-Des-Ormeaux QC). IRONISE for 78 was Jason's bingo and Eric's better plays: UNStEADY for 83, HORSIER for 72, and ADZING for 54. Other fun words: DROKE, GAMB, and JUGAL.

Seeded at #42, Trevor Sealy (Oshawa ON) is delighted to end today at 5.5-5.5. His favorite play today was one made by his round 11 opponent, Mike Ebanks (Calgary AB). Early on, Mike had played OBI. Toward the end of the game, he extended it to the triple with OBITUARY. Very pretty!

Fern Lindzon (Toronto ON) dolled up and headed off to a gig that started at 7. Scrabble Star by Day and Jazz Star by night!

Toronto club member, Jillian Bathgate, came to visit during this round as did Shauna Petrie. We expect more visitors on Sunday and Monday (for the finals).

Players were gathered in the foyer around the standings as the results came in. When the dust settled, Adam Logan (Ottawa ON) was in first, James Leong (Vancouver BC) was in second (both 9-2) and Eric Tran (Calgary AB) was in third (the top 8-3 record). Others with the 8-3 record (and less spread): Matthew Tunnicliffe (Ottawa ON), Chris Williams (Vancouver BC), Joshua Sokol (Montreal QC), and Mark Edelson (Toronto ON).
