Awards Ceremony We had a quick awards ceremony not long after the last results slip was turned in. The first award went to the winners of the Michael Wise Sportsmanship Award. There was a tie again this year: Sary Karanofsky (Cote Saint-Luc QC) and James Leong (Vancouver BC). They got to share the goodies that were to go to the winner. Each won another set of CNSC Protiles, an event tile bag, and one got a SCRABBLE themed tea towel (Sary) and one got a SCRABBLE themed thermos (James). They pretended to fight over who got what, which was hysterical for the event's best sports. Next came the daily high play (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) and the best record (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). John Chew asked each winner to stay at the front after he called them up for their individual photo. After the daily winners, he called up the top 10. Then the finalists were called up, Adam Logan (Ottawa ON) and Ross Brown (Ottawa ON) to thunderous applause. Mad Palazzo helped hand out out the sportsmanship prizes and John shook hands with everyone else (their checks will be in the mail soon!). Tomorrow's finals, with will be emceed by Robin Pollock Daniel (Toronto ON) will be great fun! Two players from Ottawa playing for all the marbles! |
