At long last tonight, the promised lobster dinner. Generously sized, too large for my kids to finish one, but enough to fill any adult appetite. Served in the local style, freshly killed and boiled, then immersed in an ice bath to chill the meat and separate it from the shell. With sides of potato salad and cole slaw, and in case you wanted to make a roll out of it, a roll. Seldom have I felt as Canadian as I did, as we came to the close of the first chapter of a story that started when a small town man with a big vision discovered his town's splendid secret, invited the world to celebrate it, and brought to the lobster party two local guys named Bob & Doug, and a culturally appropriate number of brown, yellow and native people. Honestly, it was so heartwarming I felt like I'd been cast in a doomed CBC sitcom pilot. Then we finished eating and started playing Scrabble, A-Math and Fry Your Brain, and it felt more like a regular Scrabble tournament after hours.
