Round 3

With the round wrapping up any minute, I catch Alex Rodriguez (NYC, NY) vs. Josh Greenway (Toronto ON) in their last move. Alex is low on time and bent over the board. Suddenly he slaps down SATIRISE through the R, hooking to make ILEX for 88 as an outplay. The two of them do the requisite last-play challenge and upon returning Josh turns over his rack: OEQUBS?, for 34 points. So, the outbingo plus the rack gave Alex a 361-351 win. Josh shook his hand and congratulated him on the turn of fortunes, classy guy! I see HAUNTInG and INTERRED.

Trevor Sealy (Oshawa ON) is having a very good game against Tony Leah (Ajax ON). With 7 minutes on his clock, I watch him comb the board, tracking. He's got one more tile on Tony's rack than exists. But he's got time. Tony is down to 48 seconds: less time. Trevor opened with MARShAL for 72 and later got down DEVIAtES. I see Tony's ROENTGEN. It is looking pretty hopeless for for Tony, he's being by more than 100 at this point. 437-347

Another interesting game just winds up with Fern Lindzon (Toronto ON) playing out with ALEMbIC for 67. Earlier in the game she played DIGRESS. Her opponent, Christopher Sykes (Cambridge ON), played NUTRIAS and PERIGEe. Both of them played bingos for their last turns, but it was Fern's win 427-403. Let's hear it for outbingo wins!

The hotel provided catering for the staff's lunch, but John has less staff than he anticipated, so the players are helping us finish the sandwiches, salad, and crudite.

A reporter from the National Post has arrived during our lunch hour. Fern Lindzon (Toronto ON) has offered to sit down with her and go over an open game, showing her some swanky moves. I'll peek in on them later.
